Costello Medical launched its own Technical Innovation and Development division last year with a vision to create innovative products and services for clients and help our internal teams deliver the best possible service to our clients. The division combines software development, automation and research functions to support the wider company by using technology to improve client project delivery and increase the efficiency of internal processes.

The Technical Assistant role is cross-functional and will involve supporting the software development team with bug testing and developing guidance documents while assisting the wider company with finding and developing technical solutions to problems they or their clients face.

As a driven and ambitious cross-divisional team who are growing rapidly, they are looking for someone who will thrive in a fast-paced environment and develop the role as the team and company grow. There are multiple progression opportunities, for example, taking on more responsibilities relating to project coordination and, eventually, the management or specialising in a particular technical area.

Key responsibilities will include:

Technical Innovation

  • Proactively proposing ways to streamline processes (in and outside of the division) and subsequently implementing them
  • Advising colleagues on best practices and efficient ways of using third-party software and internally developed applications
  • Researching and helping to trial new software and tools
  • Assisting with the development of reports and dashboards, for example, using Microsoft Excel and PowerBI in conjunction with Application Programme Interface (APIs) or other data sources
  • Development of scripts for basic automation, for example, Visual Basic macros and Python scripts

Software Development Support

  • Completing support tasks for software development projects, including researching competitors
  • Conducting end-to-end testing of internally developed applications and tools
  • Drafting presentations and other documents, including user guides and training materials for software and tools

Requirements

About You

Due to the varied and evolving nature of divisional and company need, applicants should be proactive with a willingness to learn and contribute innovative ideas towards the development of our service offerings. Prior knowledge of programming or query languages is not required but applicants should have a keen interest in software and be motivated to explore the use of software and related tools. Undertaking self-directed research to continually learn relevant skills will be required.

This role requires a problem-solving mindset and eagerness to work both independently and collaboratively to find solutions. Excellent customer service alongside an enthusiasm for technology and high-quality deliverables is a must.

  • An aptitude for investigating software capabilities to understand how functionality can fit with company processes

  • An excellent level of productivity and the flexibility to respond to changing deadlines
  • An exceptional level of customer service and communication, both internally and externally
  • A high degree of tact, discretion and professionalism when dealing with confidential information

  • Excellent proficiency in written English and arithmetic
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

The Recruitment Process

  • The first stage in our recruitment process includes a CV and cover letter review by the Technical Development and Innovation team
  • If you are progressed to the next stage, you will be invited to attend a telephone interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition team, which will assess your interest in the role and relevant skills and experience
  • Next, you will be invited to complete a technical assessment remotely
  • If successful, you will be invited to an interview with members of our Technical Innovation and Development team. The interview will include technical questions based on your assessment, followed by a competency-based interview

Our standard recruitment process lasts around 1 month however, this is adapted if necessary.

We are currently recruiting for start dates throughout 2022. Additional start dates may also be available and you will be asked to state your availability on your application form.
