Our Client an established, independent specialists in the advice and supply of Water Filter Systems, Water Treatment Products, Process Filtration, Water Filter Housings, Microfiltration Filter Cartridges, Particulate Filtration, Ultraviolet (UV) Disinfection Systems and Reverse Osmosis Systems is looking for a Technical Account Manager (Field Sales) to join the team.

The Midlands territory has a suite of existing customers and plenty of potential to grow new business. The expectation of the role is to meet prospective and existing customers face to face four days a week and to spend one day preparing for sales. This requires someone who will focus on effectively achieving profitable sales through face-to face contact and proactive prospecting. This role is suited to someone who is organised, driven and capable of achieving set targets and objectives.

The Technical Account Manager must be competent in closing new business as well as maximising opportunities within existing accounts, be capable of working independently whilst working with other departments to achieve their sales targets and goals.

Therefore, the Technical Account Manager will be capable of working with other departments as well as independently to achieve their sales targets and goals. This role is supported by the wider company business, particularly by our Internal Sales, Customer Service, Technical and Marketing teams.

The candidate suited to this role will have a proven track record of business-to-business sales and a strong understanding of the subtilties of long-term account management. This role aims to create and build strong, profitable and sustainable relationships with prospective and existing customers.

The ideal candidate for this role will be looking to take on a new challenge in the field sales in a market with increasing potential. The Technical Account Manager will be motivated by the thrill of sales and the capacity to grow new business. Being proactive and personable are key traits of the person suited to this role.

This person will have had a successful field sales background, ideally selling a technical product into a manufacturing or engineering industry. They must be capable of and willing to learn a technical portfolio of products to sell within primarily technical markets. Overall, the Technical Account Manager will be a confident and capable individual with excellent commercial awareness, driven to maximise sales within their territory.

The skillset:

  • 3+ years sales territory management – B2B, technical product
  • Experience within a manufacturing or engineering industry or product range is preferable
  • Target driven, enthusiastic, confident, and motivated individual
  • Strong communication and customer service skill
  • Effective organisation skills for territory management
  • Ability to learn and retain product specific information
  • Ideally educated to degree (or equivalent) standard in a science, business, engineering or technical subject
  • Full, clean driving license
  • All employees must have eligibility to work in the UK

A typical week in the role of a Technical Account Manager’s involves:

  • 1 day a week of administrative and preparatory work
  • 4 days on the road (approximately 3-4 hours of driving and 4 hours meetings)
  • Maximising existing accounts – 30% *
  • Developing new business – 50% *
  • Sales preparation and planning – 20% * (* Initially, whilst developing new territory)

Sales:

  • To achieve the sales and profit target of their Territory
  • To systematically analyse data to identify and qualify target customers/products for increasing sales, (order history, inactive accounts, low activity accounts, etc)
  • To identify relevant potential customers for sales targeting, concentrating on converting prospective business to achieve sales goals and profitability
  • To determine pricing for new and managed accounts, in line with the company strategy
  • To ensure the sales effort into the market segments, specific companies or areas as specified by the strategy is implemented
  • To maximise communication opportunities with customers and ensure all opportunities are correctly followed up to maximise sales potential
  • To initiate and coordinate the development of action plans to penetrate new markets.
  • Advise existing customers on product choice as well as introducing new products and/or applications to increase sales
  • Self-generate new business opportunities through probing, gaining referrals and targeting prospective accounts

Customer satisfaction:

  • To communicate internally with all departments to achieve customer satisfaction
  • Work with other members of the Sales, Marketing and Technical teams, to identify issues, propose solutions and take part in projects to contribute to operational and sales efficiency
  • To administer the needs of all existing customers, by personal contact by phone, email and visit, to ensure complete satisfaction and maximising of sales opportunities
  • Work in unison with Customer Service Coordinators and Sales Territory Leaders to ensure all accounts are fully attended to and are serviced appropriately and profitably

Reporting:

  • To report on a regular basis to the External Sales Manager with data, input, ideas, feedback and overall performance of territory and sales efforts
  • To report to the Marketing department opportunities, trends and competitive activities and feedback on the marketing strategy

General:

  • To ensure that all complex enquiries into the Company are dealt with in a responsible and efficient manner
  • To work out of hours and travelling to meet customers and agents in the territory
  • To carry out any reasonable instructions given by management for the benefit of the Company
