Applications are invited for a Registrar / LAS SpR / Speciality Doctor / StR4+in Gastroenterology. The post will commence as soon as possible (ASAP). Thispost offers the opportunity to develop general registrar level skills andpossibly more advanced skills for those interested and those doctors with theappropriate experience to do so.

GENERALDUTIES (guideline only)
·Appropriate clinical responsibilityfor the care of patients delegated by the consultant to his/ her charge. Coresponsibility for the proper functioning of the Gastroenterology department,including the supervision of more junior medical staff.
·Participation in the Registrar oncall rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleague’sabsence.
·Attending clinics and assessingpatients and formulating treatment decisions seeking advice from the consultantas appropriate.
·Attending sessions with theconsultant and assisting or performing procedures as appropriate.
·Running of wards with consultantcover on site during the day, consultant off site after hours.
·Participation in clinical audit.
·Attendance at clinical meetings andcase conferences as appropriate.
·Working within a multidisciplinaryteam.
·Teaching and training staff in othermedical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
·Communication with other team membersas appropriate.
·Co-ordinating appropriate medicaldisciplines concerned with care for your speciality and communicatingappropriately with general practitioners (GP’s) and community agencies.
·Assessment, care and treatment ofpatients presenting acutely to the speciality and referred to the speciality.
·Conducting daily ward rounds oninpatients under the consultant’s care, supervising the junior doctors whilstthe patient is in their care.
·In conjunction with the admittingclinical teams and the wider health economy to develop and implement integratedGastroenterology pathways throughout the hospital / trust.
·Participation in relevant audit forthe department and quality assurance procedures.
·Abide by the clinical & CorporateGovernance policies of the hospital/ trust.
·To make sure that the guidance fromthe GMC (General Medical Council) on Good Medical Practise is at the heart ofyour clinical practise.
·To keep up to date with Gastroenterologyknowledge by Continuous Medical Education in the best interest of the patientand your personal development.
·Although a timetable will beprovided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interest of patient careand to meet the needs of the department as decided by the general manager andclinical lead for your department – Gastroenterology.
·To contribute to the wider corporateand organisational needs of the hospital / trust as appropriate.

The salary is based on the national salary scale as outlined in the Medical andDental Terms and Conditions – £45,124 to £77,519 per annum not inclusive ofextra hours, these are paid in addition to basic salary.
PERSONAL& PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Thepost-holder will be required to keep himself / herself up-to-date with theirrelevant area of practise and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfactionof the hospital / trust / GMC.
The trustsupports the requirements for continuing professional development as set downby the Royal College’s and is committed to providing time and financial supportfor these activities, this is also the same for GMC Revalidation.STUDY LEAVE
Professional or study leave is granted for purposes approved by the trust andincludes time off for study, research, teaching, examining, takingexaminations, visiting clinics external (if required) to the hospital / trustand attending professional conferences.
