An exciting opportunity has arisen for the roles of Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Therapists (Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist) within the Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care Team at HDFT
Posts available:
1)Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Occupational Therapist (30hrs per week Band 6)
2) Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Physiotherapist (22.5 hours per week Band 6)
These are fixed term /secondment project post until 31/3/26 from start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality heamato- oncology and palliative care specialist Therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT
Main duties of the job
The post holders will work alongside the band 7 specialist occupational therapist who will lead the project within a multidisciplinary team consisting of Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist and Dietetic and administrative support
To provide specialist and autonomous evidence based HOP interventions, managing a complex caseload of outpatient and community patients to ensure optimal clinical outcomes
- Within Cancer, the service will focus on patients diagnosed with Cancer of unknown primary (CUP), Lung, Upper GI, primary Brain cancers and those with haematological malignancy.
- Within Specialist Palliative Care the service will focus on patients with progressive life limiting illness and complex needs within the defined referral criteria
To provide a high standard of specialist therapy assessment and intervention for patients, with complex needs in the community, outpatients and specialist advice to therapy colleagues in hospital settings to:
- facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions,
- facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anticancer treatment
- facilitate preferred place of care,
- optimise symptom control,
- help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs

Registration and Experience
Essential
- Registered with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
- BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy (or equivalent).
- Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy/Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
- Proven ability of successfully working with people and handling difficult and complex situations
Desirable
- Previous experience working in cancer services or palliative care.
