They are responsible for supporting design assessments through testing, analysis and FEA simulations. The team has expertise within the fields relating to structures (linear and nonlinear), high speed dynamics, rigid multi-body dynamics and power/thermal management.We have an exciting opportunity for a Simulation/Stress Engineer to join our team to help support de-risking of our next generation of products.
About the Role:
As a Simulation/Stress Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the evaluation and presentation of results generated from simulations and tests. You will be expected to build a technical knowledge base of our products which can be used to provide feedback to the design teams and to accelerate the speed of new product developments at Ocado.Other responsibilities might include:
- Using technical expertise and network to tackle advanced problems requiring analysis and simulation.
- Providing technical and theoretical support for validation and functional tests for new or existing products.
- Investigating complex issues and providing appropriate steer via feedback and solutions to different stakeholders.
- Designing tests to discover and validate findings E.g. This could include using strain gauges, thermal analysis, vibration profiling of new /existing products.
- Using analytical tools, best practices and relevant standards to substantiate and de-risk designs of new/existing products.
- Preparing and presenting technical reports and findings to different stakeholders.
- Writing Basic SQL for analysing data sets.
About You:We’d love to talk to you if you have…
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Advanced expertise in technical problem solving using calculations, modelling and static or dynamic FEA simulations.
- Understanding of the principles of simulation, risks involved and ways to mitigate them.
- Technical background in designing components, taking into account requirements, production methods and economics.
- Track record in the validation and verification of analysis results.
- Experience with 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS or OnShape).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Strong communication skills for presenting to stakeholders.
- Experience working cross-functionally with different levels of stakeholder.
This would make you stand out from the crowd:
- Experience with ANSYS software, including LS-DYNA and Space Claim.
- Experience with MATLAB.
- Understanding of control systems, electronics and electrical hardware.
- Knowledge of 3D printing material characterisation.
- Ability to conduct Plastic Mould Flow analysis.
- Understanding of vibration profiling and using it to create accelerated life tests.
