As a senior Data Scientist you will act as an internal consultant to provide thought leadership, innovative algorithms/solutions to a variety of predictive and decision problems arising from AnyVan’s business.

You will collaborate closely with the Head of Routing and Optimisation to conceptualise, design and develop heuristic formulas, machine learning and optimisation models and work with key stakeholders across the business, product and tech to being them to production.

You will also be expected to coach and mentor other members in the team on data science and optimisation related topics whilst also writing production ready code to deliver solutions.Skills and experience we think you’ll need to be successful in the role:

  • A masters or phd in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or Statistics (or fields related to algorithms)
  • Extensive experience in developing Optimisation or machine learning solutions in a fast paced logistics market place or management consulting companies focusing on logistics
  • Excellent knowledge of some of the techniques like mixed integer programming, meta heuristics, approximate algorithms, constraint programming, machine learning, deep learning
  • Experience working in some of the domains like Procurement planning, Revenue management, Pricing, Routing and Forecasting
  • Hands on experience with SQL and some programming languages (Python/Java/C++)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to explain complex problems simply to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Passion for data science, statistics, operations research and logistics market placebusiness
  • Biased toward action, creative, and communicative
  • Understanding of agile concepts and ability to work in agile teams

We are extremely proud of our culture and believe in the many benefits that being in the office provides and all of our roles require regular time in one of our key offices depending on where you’re based (Hammersmith or Newcastle).

We support flexible and hybrid working wherever possible but some roles remain fully office based. Where we can support it, typical working patterns would be 3 days in the office 2 days from home. However, we appreciate everyone’s situation is unique and are open to conversations around the working patterns.
