We are looking for an experienced senior care assistant to join our team at The Chesters Care Home in Low Fell, Gateshead, where we provide care and support for up to 33 residents. We are looking for someone who has a caring nature and is willing to work as part of the senior care team to ensure the care home maintains excellent standards of care and support. This is a full-time and permanent position.

PURPOSE OF POSITION & PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the manager in all aspects of the home’s management, including taking temporary complete charge on shifts where the manager is not working or during any times where the person in charge of the home is absent.
  • Carry out the administration of medication to Clients on each shift in accordance with your accredited training and as prescribed by G.P.’s.
  • To assist in the provision of care and work as part of a team to achieve required standards.
  • To help train junior members of staff in all aspects of their work in the home.
  • To promote person centred care planning within the home and ensure that care plans are reviewed and updated regularly to reflect residents needs.
  • To maintain and monitor the health and welfare of service users and ensure that each person receives care appropriate to their individual needs.
  • As a Senior Carer you are required to provide ‘on call’ support to the home when required and as instructed by the Manager.
  • Liaise with Clients, staff, GP’s and other health care professionals to promote good care.
  • To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of clients in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
  • Answer the Nurse Call System, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately, greet visitors, respond accordingly and pass on all messages promptly.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

· Hold the relevant Vocational Qualification needed for the position (Level 3)

· Genuine interest in working within a caring environment

· Strong team leadership and negotiation skills

· Team player with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

· Satisfactory DBS Check and references

· Relevant experience of leading a team in a care environment

Experience:

  • Providing care: 1 year (preferred)
  • Supervisory: 1 year (preferred)
  • Medication administration: 1 year (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care (preferred)
