Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is hiring a passionate Midwifery Project Manager to lead delivery of the Generation Study — a pioneering genomic research project that will sequence the DNA of 100,000 newborns to identify rare genetic conditions early and improve lifelong outcomes.

About the Role
As Project Manager and Senior Research Midwife, you’ll oversee the end-to-end coordination and delivery of the Generation Study within Obstetrics. This includes strategic recruitment planning, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and adherence to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ethical research frameworks.

You’ll work under the supervision of the Trust Research Matron and liaise with internal departments, national collaborators, and international stakeholders. The role combines project management, clinical leadership, and frontline research delivery in one of the UK’s most advanced maternity research units.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Generation Study delivery in Obstetrics across the Trust
  • Plan and implement recruitment strategies to achieve study targets
  • Ensure compliance with research protocols, GCP, and UK/EU research law
  • Represent the Trust in national and international research forums
  • Mentor and support midwifery and clinical research staff
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical skills and professional registration

Essential Qualifications & Skills

  • Registered Midwife with valid NMC registration
  • Degree in a health/biological-related subject (or working toward)
  • PEAP, ENB998 or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Experience managing research or clinical projects
  • Strong knowledge of midwifery care, antenatal services, and health inequalities
  • Proficiency in MS Office and clinical research systems
  • Phlebotomy, suturing, IV drugs, and cannulation skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and lead complex projects

Desirable

  • MSc in Clinical Research or related field
  • GCP Certification
  • NIPE qualification
  • Prior research experience in an NHS or academic setting
