An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our DSFS team working with our  Catering department located within View email address on chesterfieldroyal.nhs.uk Royal, as a Cook Supervisor.

The successful candidate will assist in the management of the commercial catering outlet situated at Cafe @the Royal located in the main entrance of Chesterfield Royal Hospital.   You will be responsible for ensuring a high quality food service is delivered through a highly motivated catering team.

The hours of work are :- 22.5 hours per week and will include weekends and bank holidays, please note this is  a 9 month temporary contract

As part of this role the successful candidate will provide café / restaurant food service with a varied menu and assist in the preparation of balanced meals taking into consideration dietary requirements. They will assist the manager to train and motivate the catering team in all aspects of the role, including food preparation and service.

We are looking for individuals who have a good knowledge and understanding of food safety as well as sound catering experience. The successful candidates will possess an Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate and have relevant City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications. Good communication skills and excellent customer service is of paramount importance so we are looking for individuals who have a professional approach as well as being enthusiastic and well organised.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Good knowledge of Food safety/kitchen hygiene and HACPP
  • Sound catering experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues in the NHS relating to catering services
  • Trained to Diploma level in Catering
  • City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or equivalent NVQ’s

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a similar position being responsible for standards and service working within a service led and customer focused catering environment
  • Able to work on own initiative
Desirable criteria
  • Experience within commercial/branded retail and/or NHS catering operations

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage, motivate and lead a team
  • A good communicator, able to converse easily and well at all levels
  • Enthusiastic and having a passion for food
  • Strong Health & Safety/ Food Hygiene and HACCP skills
  • Work well under pressure and able to prioritise
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literate
