Are you a newly qualified or soon-to-qualify Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) looking for an opportunity to make an impact in children and adolescent mental health? Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a passionate Band 6 Clinical Associate in Psychology to join the Solar Crisis and M-Power team. This is a full-time, permanent position with sponsorship available for eligible international applicants.
The Solar Crisis and M-Power team is part of the wider CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) structure within Solar, a collaborative partnership between the NHS, Barnardo’s, and Autism West Midlands. The team provides rapid assessments and brief psychological interventions for children and young people experiencing mental health crises.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide psychological assessments and brief interventions for 0–19-year-olds in crisis
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team including CAMHS, social care, and family services
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in accordance with national guidelines and service policies
- Support the delivery of culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care
- Participate in outcome monitoring, service evaluation, and continuous service improvement
- Engage in supervision, professional development, and service innovation
- Maintain clear and timely clinical documentation in line with Trust standards
- Support colleagues through consultation and case formulation discussions

Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Completed Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP) postgraduate training
- Experience working in CAMHS settings or with children and young people
- Knowledge of psychological approaches relevant to youth mental health and crisis intervention
- Experience working with neurodiverse populations
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- High standard of verbal and written communication skills
Desirable
- Due to complete CAP training within 3 months
- Broader experience in children’s services or mental health
- Familiarity with crisis pathways and multi-agency collaboration
