Job descriptionNottingham based Free Radical Design are seeking a passionate Game Designer to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver shippable game systems.
The original founders have revived Free Radical Design to create a new masterpiece in the TimeSplitters franchise. Join their journey and be a part of games history in the making as they craft the next eagerly anticipated instalment of the legendary TimeSplitters!
As a Game Designer you will be creating mechanics and items, blocking out levels and populating worlds for the project. In addition you’ll tend to the associated bugs and create documentation for the team. You will also organise playtests to present prototypes to prove concepts, test features and balance gameplay.
Your responsibilities…
- Own the implementation of features that stretch the capabilities of the engine and challenge the expectations of players
- Collate and iterate on feedback from playtesting, the development team, and design management
- Develop prototypes that clearly articulate the vision of the features for which you are responsible
- Identify and resolve issues while working with other disciplines in a way that best meets the design goals of the project
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role…
- Experienced in game development in a game design capacity
- Experience working with game editors
- Proficient using Unreal Engine, its interface and understand specialist workflows like level design, material authoring, VFX, UI or AI
- Solid Unreal Engine Blueprint ability, including understanding bug finding tools and methods
- Able to work independently to create mechanics and solve problems
- Comfortable working as part of a team and across departments
- Able to write effectively for documentation
- Confidence using source control, preferably Perforce
- Open to feedback and willing to iterate on design
- Able to estimate work timelines and communicate with production
- Understand the impact of work and advise relevant departments and developers of issues and changes
Non essential but desirable extras…

- Knowledge of image editing or diagrammatic tools like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator

The Free Radical Design team all work onsite in Nottingham, the studio will support you with relocation, and also support visa sponsorship will be considered if you satisfy the eligibility criteria of the UK visa and immigration service.
