A bit about the role:

We are seeking a keen, self-motivated Associate Analytical Scientist with a passion to apply their knowledge and skills to a variety of analytical challenges. This role sits within a lab-based team, responsible for the development of analytical methods to support and enhance LifeArc’s diverse project portfolio across the small molecule, antibody, and novel modalities space.The Associate Scientist will support research projects under the able direction of the appropriate supervisor, perform specialist and non-routine experiments, and have an appreciation of the scientific rationale of the assigned project(s). Responsibilities include performing mass spectrometry guided purification to support our medicinal chemistry team, maintaining analytical LC-MS facilities, and conducting routine characterisation of antibodies and other proteins.Under supervision and direction:

  • Conduct experimental research in assigned area using established methodology
  • Recommend and implement modifications as required, following approval
  • Summarise and interpret raw data
  • Initiate the investigation of problems and contribute to solutions
  • Undertake analysis of experimental results and develop hypotheses
  • Maintain awareness of relevant current scientific literature and developments
  • Provide verbal and written reports/presentations internally when required
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and other data to company standards
  • Maintain assigned equipment to company standards
  • Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all internal processes and procedures including all health and safety and COSHH regulations
  • Work closely with colleagues and provide help and assistance wherever possible
  • Complete other tasks as reasonably directed by supervisor
  • Design simple experiments, based on experience and LifeArc methodologies
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge in own area of expertise and apply it to the successful execution of experiments
  • Solve routine problems and develop solutions
  • Create guidelines/standards of practice for assigned equipment use where necessary
  • Raise purchase orders as required

About you:

Education & experience required:

  • BSc/MSc or equivalent experience in analytical chemistry/chemistry or related discipline

Skills & abilities:

  • Strong theoretical knowledge of HPLC
  • Good understanding of mass spectrometry
  • Basic knowledge of medicinal chemistry principles and the drug discovery process
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team to conduct, analyse and report on experiments to a high standard
  • Ability to prioritise workload and coordinate with colleagues
  • Strong attention to detail and intellectual curiosity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desirable:

  • Hands-on experience of MS-guided purification systems
  • Hands-on experience of analytical LC-MS systems
  • Knowledge of antibodies and other proteins, and techniques used for their analysis and characterization
  • Industrial or academic lab experience
